At long last third grade have batted first and put on an impressive batting performance, getting well on top of the Belrose attack at Nolans 3 on Saturday.
Skipper Darren McDermott finally won a toss and chose to bat, and he enjoyed the spoils himself, scoring 50 opening the batting. Dave Quarford built on his stellar start to the season putting on 57 at first drop before retiring with heat exhaustion.
James Dyson returned to the cricket field for the first time since the England Tour and he looked like he had not stopped playing at all. He had no problems with the bowlers and he hit a brilliant 74. He looked destined to score a century, but was dismissed by a classic catch. Nearly the rest of the entire lineup chipped in with a score between 10 and 30 and the Plateau were bowled out with 301 runs on the board.
After some confusion from the opposition about whether we had to bowl 70 overs in a day or not, the 3rds hit the field for 7 overs. Mick grabbed one of the Belrose wickets, and they will resume next week at 1/30.
7th grade are locked in a tight match for the first time this season. After winning every single one of their completed matches outright, they now face a tough run chase against Harbord Bowling. It a great effort from club stalwart John Jackson to dismiss Harbord for 150, with Jacko taking 4 wickets.
The Plateau began the run chase and also began to lose wickets. They will resume next week at 4/60, skipper Dom Wheeler is at the crease.
First grade have set themselves something to bowl at, but will be somewhat disappointed with their total of 207. Captain Rob Minnett got going opening the batting and he posted 91. At 2/171 the top side looked like posting a huge total. But they then lost 6 wickets for a meager 9 runs. 1 batsman short, the final pair managed to add 17 more before they were bowled out. Belrose are 0/11 in reply.
In the first chewy cup game for 09/10, Dan Peters has ripped through the Breakers batting lineup. He took 6/16 off 9 to halt the innings at 151. Thirds are already halfway to the total at 3/74.
4ths were another team to post a huge total last weekend. They hit Belrose for 350. Adam Presley got approximately 90 and plenty of others chipped in including a 50 for Graeme Faulkner.

1st Grade Fill-ins Help 2nds Demolish Leagues
2nd Grade have continued their strong start to the season after they scored a comfortable victory over Manly Leagues last weekend. On week 1 the Plateau posted a huge total of 7/316. Gilkesy grabbed his 2nd 50 for the season finishing on 63 opening the batting before 1st Grade's Haithwaite and Bennetts put on a 100 partnership for the 7th wicket (Haithwaite 77 not out).
The team consisted of 4 regular 1st graders due to a few unavailabilities and the top side having a bye.
Gilkesy again starred on Saturday, taking 4 wickets with the ball to destroy the Leagues' middle order. Leagues' managed to hold on for 67 overs before they were all out for 191.
Second grade sit in equal 1st alongside Harbord Diggers.
Third grade threw away a victory for the taking. Thanks to 6/55 from Mick Mackin, they bowled Manly 6th Grade out for 175 on week 1, a well below par score for the Warriewood ground. About half the team got starts, but none could go on with it and they fell 14 runs short. Returning to the field for some bowling/fielding practice, Mick added to his game tally and should have taken a 10 for. He had 2 catches go down to spoil the milestone. 3rds are now equal last.
Despite having Terry Hills 3/7 after week 1, the 4th grade team could not bowl them out for less than their total of 196. They could only manage a further 2 wickets before Terry Hills cruised past after 67 overs. 4th Grade are struggling with only 1 victory for the season and sit in equal last place.
5ths are also looking good after another victory on the weekend. They bowled Manly Leagues out for 137 last week, declared at 8/283 this week, sent them back in but could only manage 2 wickets in their outright attempt. They are sitting comfortable in 2nd place on the 5th grade table.
You can probably guess the result delivered by the 7th grade juggernaut. It was Cromer's turn to suffer this week. They were sent in the bat first and were dismissed for 126 (Mackenzie 3/51). The 7ths then belted 302 (Porter-Denning 68) and went on to steamroll Cromer's 2nd innings effort for 71 (Porter-Denning 4/6). They have won every game outright, except for the washout and have a 11 point gap to the 2nd place team on the table.

T20 Stumbles
4 early wickets was not enough for the Plateau to stop a hard hitting Wakehurst in yesterdays 2nd round Twenty20 clash at Nolans.
CPCC lost the toss but got what they wanted when Wakehurst elected to bowl. The opening partnership did not produce like the last game, with David being caught in slips 2nd ball. Josh, however, continued his red hot form belting 60. Rob was run out attempting a quick single on 9. New team member Jimmy Maroulis looked in great touch as he hit a very quick 23. Doug Campbell followed that up with 17. From there nobody could stay with Toth, Brendo was run out for 4 and Nick Eade was given LBW for a duck. Josh was then finally caught. Jeff added 15 to the total before he was bowled and from there the Plateau could add not much more being bowled out in the last over for 143.

7th's Power on as 1st's Struggle for Numbers
The Plateau have recorded two first innings victories on the first day of round 4, but while the news is all good for 2nd's and 7th's, it was a tough day for some of the other Plateau sides.
1st Grade went into their clash with Harbord Bowling struggling to get a full side on the park and after day 1 they are staring down the barrel of being winless from the opening 4 games of the season. Young star 'the Demon' made a huge step up after getting an 80 for 7th's last week, but captain Minnett was still left 1 short of a full batting lineup.
The poorly done new pitch at Nolans 1 saw action for the first time, despite being criticised for not being flat amongst other things. The skipper managed 28 before being caught, Mossy suffered the same fate for 29. 'The Demon' was thrown in at number 5 and overcame nerves to record an impressive 23. Jason Haithwaite was the only other man to break the 20 mark, he finished on 22 not out, and the Plateau were all out for a disappointing 139.
Harbord faced 25 overs and finished the day at 4/70, half way to their target with 6 wickets in hand. While Harbord look to be in control, Collaroy will be boosted by the return of strike bowler Dave Sharp next week and the result could be close.
2nd's have continued their unbeaten start to the season by already defeating Harbord Bowling on first innings at Plateau Park. Harbord were rolled for 98, Will Dobie 5/22 and Matt Richards 3/19, before an Al Richardson 50 put the Plateau into a commanding lead. Tim Carpenter finished the days play on 45 not out and Collaroy will resume next week at 8/196 with their sights firmly set on an outright victory.
3rd grade had another shocking day in the field at Lake Park, also against Harbord Bowling, as controversy ruled the days play. The Plateau had 3 plumb LBW's turned down, including 2 against the Harbord skipper and eventual centurion while on a duck, as well as at least one clear caught behind and a run out also denied. Tempers were hard kept under control amongst a lot of the third grade side as they were forced to watch 300 possibly undeserved runs go past them. They will have a hard chase next week after concluding the day at 0/11.
5th grade notched up a total in excess of 300 at Nolans 4 (also against Harbord Bowling) with the runs being shared around the team.
7th's are now seeming unstoppable after they demolished the next best side in the comp on Saturday at Balgowlah Oval. Balgowlah were sent into bat by skipper Dom Wheeler and were subsequently steam rolled for 67, Angus MacKenzie 4/13. The captain then fell just short of a half century (49) as he lead his team to a first innings victory. With an outright victory looming, the 7th grade development side are proving far too good for their comp and are doing an excellent job. They will continue next week at 5/136.
This Sunday the Collaroy Plateau Masters team will be making an appearance at Manly Oval from 1:00 PM in their clash with Manly. It is the first time in years, if ever, a Plateau side has played at the ground.

Toth Stars as Plateau T20 holds off Harbord Bowling
Josh Toth slogged 69 off 37 balls to set a solid platform for what would be a match winning total for inaugural Collaroy Plateau Cricket Club Twenty20 XI.An incomplete new pitch at Nolans 1 forced a late ground change to Nolans 5 where 2nd time captain Tom Carden lost the toss to opposition skipper and cousin Carl Pymble but it did not effect who would bat first as Harbord elected to bowl. Tom gave the nod to 4th grade young all rounder David Le and 2nd grade tonker Toth to open the innings for the Plateau. With an average of only 10 over 17 seniors matches the decision to open with Le was surprising. But the skipper's decision was quickly justified as Davo penciled in a personal seniors high score, hitting a supporting run-a-ball 27 including a classic cover drive for 4 straight into the Plateau dugout. At the other end Josh was on fire and the two put on 69 for the first wicket to pave the way for the incoming batsmen to come in and hit without pressure.
1st grade skipper Rob Minnett came to the crease and struggled with a couple of deliveries that were slow off the Nolans 5 pitch. He struck a few boundaries before being dismissed for 24 off 17 balls. Toth's impressive innings came to an end an over later which saw the Plateau at 3/146 with 6 overs remaining.
5th's Steve Bull contributed with a handy 23 off 14 before the innings was finished off by 4th's captain Blake Conde as he dispatched a full toss over the rope for 6. CPCC pulled up just short of the 200 mark at 5/197.Skipper TC struck early in Harbord's run chase, getting Bartlett caught on the boundary by Brendo. Richards then struck in his 2nd over, clean bowling Ross with a beautiful in-swinging delivery. Harbord then got going when Carden got unlucky in his 2nd over, his cousin Dane Pymble was dropped twice and the Plateau were made to pay when 12 was taken off the over.
4th grade's Andrew Coates then replaced Tom and produced a match defined spell of 4 overs, 2 wickets for 26. Taking the pace off the ball, the Harbord batsmen could not adjust to the movement off the wicket.
Harbord were given a sniff later in the game when Toth and Ball were sent for a few. Josh then switched to spin and the lack of pace again proved successful and after a tight 2nd last over Brendo needed to defend 19 off the final over the game. He produced a brilliant last over, 2 run outs were taken off it and Harbord were left at 9/184 at the games end, 13 runs short.

Rain Washes out Round 2
No games were able to be completed on day 2 of this round due to rain. At 1 o'clock the weather looked like it could hold off for some play, but it wasn't long before the heavens opened and any chance of getting on diminished.
5th grade will be the most aggravated by the weather, as they probably could have achieved a first innings victory last week had the sprinklers not cut short the days play.
The disappointment of no games was relieved by a big day at the Brooky Pub.

Two New Centurions in Huge Day for 7ths
7th grade skipper Dom Wheeler along with other talented up-and-comer Jeff Porter-Denning led their side to a huge 4/377 as they both registered their maiden centuries against Manly 7th Grade at Dee Why on Saturday. The two put on 111 for the third wicket, Dom was the first to reach the milestone before he was caught out for 119. Not long later his partner joined him in the centurions club and then was also caught for 117. From there 7ths didn't lose another wicket to cap off a day that Jeff and Dom will long remember. James Price scored 40* to add to his 41* last week.
In other grades, 1sts were bowled out for 210 at Griffith Park, which they believe is not enough. Seaforth are 1/30 in their chase. 2nds are 4/60 chasing Long Reef's 150 at Lake Park, which they should knock over next week. 3rds are 3/28 chasing St Peters' 142. 4ths did well to recover from 4/60 to reach 240.
And a frustrated 5ths had their days play cut short at 3/40 (chasing Long Reefs small total of 99) when the notorious Plateau Park sprinklers came on with around 20 overs still left in the days play. You would have though the council would have learnt by now.

50-50 Day for Plateau as 7th Grade Dominate
The Plateau have finished the first round of the new season with a fifty-fifty record, but even most of the losing teams showed promising signs for things to come.
After sitting in a shaky position after week 1, 1st grade failed to take the 10th wicket to give them victory. Mona Vale started the day in a commanding position at 2/80, chasing 174. They strengthened their position until the 3rd wicket finally fell with the score at 133. New Plateau man Nathan Osborne then fueled a remarkable comeback, the Plateau taking a further 6 wickets for only 29 runs. The Mona Vale number 10 and 11 had to make 13 more runs for victory and the Plateau attack failed put the game away. Mona Vale limped home to win the game by 1 wicket.
2nd grade snuffed out a bit of a threat on their massive total of 297. 2nd grade debutant Matt Richards struck early bowling a Wakehurst opener for a duck. The number 4 sent a scare through the camp as he powered his way towards a century. Unfortunately for him, none of his partners could build a solid stand with him and wicket machine Dan Peters carved through the middle and lower order, finishing with 6. Wakehurst were eventually bowled out for 213.
After an early collapse 3rd grade pulled up short in their chase of 279 against Wakehurst at Lake Park. They looked in horrible trouble at 6/84 early in the day. Andrew 'Dee' Davis then joined Dave Quarford at the crease and they put on a century stand to give the Plateau sparks of hope. With the score at 192 Quarford was dismissed for 86 and unfortunately the tail could not stay with Dee. The innings was closed at 215 with Dee 54 not out.
4th Grade were the most disappointing this weekend as they were bundled out for 90 in their chase of 170. The Plateau never got going and highlight of the day for the 06/07 champions was when Dee Why chose not to send them back in to bat despite there being plenty of time left in the day.

Wakehurst were out in 15 overs for a measly 39. Jeff was straight back on it in innings 2, taking 2/0 off his solitary over. With outright almost guaranteed, skipper Wheeler took Jeff out of the attack to share the bowling around the team. The others did not have too much trouble either and the final 5 wickets were taken to have Wakehurst finished at 94. 7th's outright victory had been achieved in just over 2 hours.
President Huxley gladly ended his run with the golden duck medal, with Mick Mackin getting a goldo just before Adam Wilkinson also fell first ball to end round 1 with the unwanted award.

Club Record Threatened on Day 1 Run Fest
5th grade captain Steve Bull came within inches of breaking the CPCC high score record on a hot opening day where batting first and piling on runs was a popular theme.
Steve was left two runs short of setting a new benchmark when he was caught on the boundary and dismissed for a huge 177. The new team that broke away from last years A2s coasted to unbeatable score at Millers against Wakehurst.
At the top of the tree, 1st grade could only manage an average score of 179 against Mona Vale at Kitchener. Mona Vale are already 1/43 and CPCC will have their work cut out trying to bowl them out under their total.
2nd grade set a huge total for Wakehurst to chase next week at Lionel Watts. They finished just shy of 300 on 297, with the runs spread around a few guys. Doug Cambell and Al Richardson both hit 50s as they put on nearly 100 for the 3rd wicket. Luke Ireland top scored with 69 not out batting at number 8. Despite the avalanche of runs, club president Col Huxley has taken the golden duck medal off Toby Horstead after he was fired by skipper Brendo.

Steve was left two runs short of setting a new benchmark when he was caught on the boundary and dismissed for a huge 177. The new team that broke away from last years A2s coasted to unbeatable score at Millers against Wakehurst.
At the top of the tree, 1st grade could only manage an average score of 179 against Mona Vale at Kitchener. Mona Vale are already 1/43 and CPCC will have their work cut out trying to bowl them out under their total.
2nd grade set a huge total for Wakehurst to chase next week at Lionel Watts. They finished just shy of 300 on 297, with the runs spread around a few guys. Doug Cambell and Al Richardson both hit 50s as they put on nearly 100 for the 3rd wicket. Luke Ireland top scored with 69 not out batting at number 8. Despite the avalanche of runs, club president Col Huxley has taken the golden duck medal off Toby Horstead after he was fired by skipper Brendo.
3rds suffered a tough day in the field and will be hard pressed chasing down 279 next week. The B2 champions from last year Wakehurst came out swinging and on a dry Lake Park outfield. In superb bowling conditions the Plateau was forced to watch numerous balls disapear to the boundary, but did well to peg Wakehurst back with some handy catching.
